Commercial natural gas for Ohio businesses
Natural gas comes first for us. We help Ohio businesses and farms read their natural gas bills, understand how their supply is bought, and we stay on the account after you choose.
Ohio natural gas utilities with choice
In these utility areas, a business can choose who supplies its natural gas. The utility still delivers it, reads the meter and handles leaks.
- Columbia
- Enbridge (formerly Dominion Energy Ohio)
- Duke Energy Ohio
- National Fuel’s Ohio utility (formerly CenterPoint Energy Ohio, acquired October 1, 2026)
Delivers through the pipes
Delivery rates are set by the PUCO. You pay them no matter who supplies your natural gas.
The natural gas you buy
The commodity itself. This is the part you can plan and shop.
Ways commercial natural gas is bought
- Default (Standard Choice Offer). At Columbia and Enbridge, a monthly variable rate: the NYMEX month-end settlement price plus a retail price adjustment set by auction.
- Fixed price. One price per unit for the term. Easy to budget; check the usage band.
- Index plus a set adder. Follows the market each month. Lower cost in mild months, more exposure in cold snaps.
- Blended or layered. Part fixed, part index, sometimes locked in steps over time.
Larger users may also buy on the utility’s transportation service, where the business’s supplier delivers natural gas to the utility system. Eligibility depends on the utility’s rate categories and your annual usage.
What we look at on a commercial natural gas bill
- Rate category and tariff
We check each delivery charge against your rate category and the utility’s tariff.
- Supply price and terms
What you’re paying per Ccf, Mcf or Dth, and how it’s set.
- Usage pattern
Heating-driven, process-driven or both, month by month.
- Contract dates
End date and renewal terms, so nothing rolls over without you knowing.
Results are different for each business’s usage profile. See also getting ready for winter natural gas costs and help with quotes.
